BBC Radio York is owned by the BBC, and is funded by the TV License in the UK. It launched on 4th July 1983, but was temporarily on air in May 1982 to cover the visit of Pope John Paul II's to the city of York.
Its studios are located in Bootham, York. It enjoys a weekly audience of just over 3% of adults in the area, according to its RAJAR results in December 2022. An increasing number of people are listening through digital services (including online).
